Need to set up a professional website or blog, but are not sure where to start? It can be easy to feel overwhelmed about what to do as all kinds of questions may begin to accumulate. To help you get started, we’ve outlined a few simple steps that are super easy to follow.
Purchase A Domain
One of the first things you will need if you are planning to launch a new website, is of course a domain name. Your domain name is very special and must be chosen carefully. I like to think of it as naming a new baby. (Yes I’m being a little dramatic, but follow me…) That baby has to live up to that name and represent you for life. It has to make sense so the baby doesn’t get teased. It has to be easy to pronounce or understand when spoken out loud. People with unique names will tell you how much it sucks to have your name mispronounced. And it must not be too long. Remember, not everyone is computer literate and it can take a long time to type a long URL with only one finger. Imagine trying to tell Aunt Lucy about your new website www.ConnieBakesCookiesAndDoesLaundryAsAHousewifeAndMommyBlog.net
See…You could barely say all of that in one breath. (✿◠‿◠)
I recommend purchasing your domain name (domain only, no additional package options) through GoDaddy.com. GoDaddy domains are the most affordable and easiest to manage in my opinion. If you use this link, you can even get your domain name for only $2.49. Sweet!
Obtain A Web Host
Once you have your website designed and ready to go, it needs somewhere to live on the internet so that others can visit. Poor little homeless website. Don’t let your website be cold, warm that baby up with monthly or yearly web hosting. Don’t know where to find a web host? Umm, hello…Monica Made It can host your website for you.

Are you planning to sell products or services on your web site? Need to be able to accept donations? Sounds like you’ll be indulging on an eCommerce website. Although you may know exactly what you want to sell, you still have to be able to receive the online payment. Which means you’ll need a merchant account that will allow to you accept payments and have the money transferred right to your bank account. Most use the almighty PayPal.com. (◕︵◕) I’ll save my PayPal experience for another day. There is only 1 choice for me: Stripe.
Choose A Printer
So, Monica Made It has completed your beautiful new business cards and promotional flyers. You’ve shown all your friends your online proofs and they just died (not literally I hope). Well now it’s time to do some promoting and showcase that beautiful work. Sounds like you need a printer. Unfortunately at this time, Monica Made It cannot print your projects. I wish I did have a printing press in my basement. (*adds to wishlist*)
I can however do the next best thing and recommend a great printer. GotPrint has fantastic prints. From the exact color matching, thick not flimsy paper, precise cuts, affordable and fast turn around, I won’t print anywhere else but Got Print. They offer tons of printing options for all sort of things.
